Abstract

A case of superior mesenteric arterial syndrome developed phytobezoar following duodenojejunostomy is reported and the literatures have been reviewed in view of its rarity.
The paitent, 47-year-old asthenic farmer, underwent duodenojejunostomy for duodenal obstruction caused by superior mesenteric arterial syndrome 4 years before. The patient did very well following surgery, however, was readmitted to the hospital because of frequent attacks of severe epigastric pain with vomiting and palpable movable mass in the epigastrium of approximately 1 month duration. The physical and radiological examination strongly suggested a bezoar with ulceration of the stomach which was confirmed at operation.
